ExcellCity: Strengthening The Scientific Excellence And Innovation Capacity In The Area Of Smart City Through Twinning
BG-RRP-2.005-0003
The ExcellCity project aims to enhance the research and innovation excellence of the University of Library Studies and Information Technology (ULSIT) and its local partners—Virtech and Sofia Development Association—in the field of Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities. This initiative is built upon a FIWARE-powered research infrastructure and fosters collaboration through twinning with leading European counterparts: University of Messina (Italy), University of Murcia (Spain), FIWARE Foundation (Germany), and Ubiwhere (Portugal).
The project follows a structured Work Program, outlining a comprehensive set of twinning activities and expected outcomes. Capacity building is driven by the principle of training through research, supporting ULSIT in developing a dedicated research and innovation infrastructure within the Centre of Excellence in Informatics and ICT (CoE)—funded by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF). This infrastructure will be shared with other Bulgarian partners, including:
- Institute of ICT, Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, and Institute of Mechanics under the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS)
- Medical University of Sofia
- University of Plovdiv
ExcellCity promotes technology transfer and open innovation, fostering a local innovation ecosystem in Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities. The project is funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU through Bulgaria’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Project № BG-RRP-2.005-0003).
