The FP7 FIWARE, Finodex Accelerator, ForEco Project. ForEco is a prototype SmartForest solution designed as a Smart Forest Ecological Management System, delivering ecosystem services to a diverse clientele, including NGOs, government bodies, municipalities, agricultural and forestry enterprises, green economy firms, farmers, and research institutions. This Decision Support System amalgamates various models to facilitate adaptive forest ecosystem management, promoting sustainable development and utilization of natural resources. Leveraging extensive open data from international satellite initiatives such as GEO, GEOSS, and Copernicus, ForEco enhances decision-making processes. It incorporates and adapts models like Agrarian Dynamic Global Vegetation Models, Plant Cover Models, and Forest Growth Models to simulate agriculture’s impact on forest ecosystems. The system utilizes open data from specific sensor measurements to provide insights into factors such as incident solar radiation, absorbed photosynthetically active radiation, net primary production, CO₂ utilization, leaf nitrogen content, soil humidity, and photosynthetic fluorescence signals. These data are derived from a combination of satellite and airborne observations, experimental ecosystem models, and in-situ photometric measurements. ForEco builds upon the outcomes of the FP7 ELLIOT Project and four European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Program actions, integrating their findings to enhance its functionalities.
