The FP7 TARGET (Transformative, Adaptive, Responsive and enGaging EnvironmenT) project, funded under the EU’s FP7 programme, aimed to develop a technology-enhanced learning environment to accelerate competence development in innovation and project management. Central to this environment is a serious game presenting learners with complex scenarios, facilitating experiential learning. The project integrated five key concepts:
- Threshold Concepts: Critical ideas that, once understood, transform perception of a subject.
- Knowledge Ecology: Viewing knowledge as dynamic and evolving.
- Cognitive Load Theory: Designing learning to align with human cognitive capacities.
- Learning Communities: Leveraging peer interactions for skill development.
- Experience Management: Accumulating insights from various situations.
Specific objectives included developing a conceptual framework, a knowledge model linking game scenarios to competencies, a pedagogical framework, and a virtual business environment as the platform’s core. Additionally, the project focused on creating pedagogical agents to fill roles within scenarios, establishing sustainable learning communities, integrating with organizational HR systems, and implementing an evaluation framework to assess competence development.
